Together we will explore the experiences, feelings, thoughts, events and/or relationships that prompted you to seek therapy at this time. I am here to listen to you, to get to know you, and to help you better know yourself.
It is a very common, human experience to have feelings that we don't like, and that we wish would go away. In our sessions I will suggest that we explore what those "negative" feelings are trying to tell you. Feelings reveal needs. Feelings are how our emotional mind and rational mind communicate with each other. When we jump to trying to suppress an unwanted feeling, we can miss getting to understand the real reason it is there. When we figure out the need behind the feeling the more important goal is revealed and problem solving can begin. Instead of trying to squash feelings, we will work together to find strategies and learn skills that will help you get your needs met.
